Lewis Green has an ambition to help people to get more involved and start talking more openly about mental health. He suffered a brain injury after an accident which led to him having post traumatic stress syndrome, anxiety and season affective disorder. He began talking to people on a social networking site and realised that the more he spoke to people the easier he could live with his mental health disorders. He realised that he was beginning to help others who had similar problems to himself and this is when he developed ‘Mindz Matter’. Mindz matter is an online website designed to get people talking more openly about mental health and to share their experiences. It is well documented that mental health is a growing problem within the United Kingdom, one in four people will suffer some form of mental health problem in a year ranging from anxiety to eating disorders, depression, bipolar, just to name a few. It is also evident that women are more likely to be treated for a mental health problem than men, questioning how many men suffer without some form of support. Mental health can occur at any age, 10% of children have a mental health problem at any one time; many are unaware of such an astonishing figure. Self harm statistics for the UK show one of the highest rates in?Europe, this is such a prominent problem but why is it such a taboo subject?
This is why Lewis set up Mindz Matter, to raise awareness on mental health but to also encourage people to talk more freely about their problems and it can often act as a support network. Mindz Matter can offer some factual information, it also has a blog which is updated regularly, it has a forum that people can discuss different topics and it also has ‘Mindz Matters challenge of the day’. The challenge of the day is set to offer small tasks to people to help them grow in confidence and develop strategies of living with the mental health disorder. Lewis said, “This is not developed to act as a ‘cure’ but merely a support network for us all to work together to ensure mental health is no longer a negative but we can all start to live with our mental health disorder and not be ashamed of it anymore.” He went onto to say “I would appreciate it if you took a few moments to take a look at the website, it is still under construction and any suggestions would be greatly welcomed. Everyone is welcome, all ages and not only sufferers. Come and join in.”
It’s not about forgetting the past. It’s about learning to cope with the past. The past is the past. That’s done and dusted, the future in 1 hour,tomorrow, next week,next year. That’s up to you. Stay in the past or move on into the future.

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: ”How heavy is this glass of water?”
Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.
She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”
She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.”
It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down!
Change Your Thinking
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.
One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.
His bed was next to the room’s only window.
The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
