Victoria story
Hello, my name is Victoria. Im 13 and live in North Carolina. I’ve been depressed for over four years now, still go through self harm, and may have bipolarism. Im a mess, and this is my story.
The depression started after my father left, and my grandmother died. Our family was going down the drain so quickly it was hard to get up to face it. I met my best friend that year and she told me about cutting. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. When my mother found out she hid the knives and scissors. I went to scratching. She found that out also and cut my nails. At ten I went on a strict diet and loss twenty pounds in about two months, which made me so happy. I was bullied in 6th grade and 7th grade, to the point I tried to commit suicide (4 total attempts). First mental hospital visit: December 26, 2011. Second visit: April 2012 (can’t remember exact date) Third visit: May 18, 2012. Since these hospitilizations things have gotten better. I lost my virginity in June after all the problems subsided a little. Yes, it’s still hard and may not make sense, but still living.
Ny’s {Mother’s depression}
I am a natural optimist, but also a realist, with neither the time nor energy for holding grudges. Life is far too short. I consider a strong sense of humour to be both my greatest weapon & salvation in facing life’s adversities. In retrospect my early years may have been very different had there been more support available for those with mental illness & the rather more relaxed attitude to including children in family matters which we employ today.
