About
Mindz Matter is an on-line support network which has been set up so that people with mental health issues have a place to come and talk, get help, and improve there knowledge. Mindz Matter was started by Lewis Green, and what makes this site different to all the other mental health sites out there, is that Mindz Matter has been created by someone who has actually lived it.
Lewis’ Story.
The following story will explain how Mindz Matter came to be, and this short story will let you know why this support network is so important.
Lewis Green is not a Doctor or an expert in any mental health issues. He is a normal person who lives and works in Leicester, United Kingdom, at the time at writing this he was working as an engineer.
Lewis’ story began in 2009 when he suddenly started having heart palpitations, he then went to visit his doctor and the doctor said it was because he was stressed. Lewis felt fine but being told it was stress, actually caused Lewis to become more stressed. This extra stress led on to Lewis getting alopecia (patchy hair loss), and as the weeks passed the patches got worse and the stress continued.
After about a year of living like this Lewis moved into a new home, and the symptoms started to calm down. Things were like this for about six months.
Then one day in November 2010 Lewis hit his head on a side cabinet in his bed room, and is believed to have suffered concussion. The next day after taking his girlfriend to work, he fell down the stairs on the way back up to his flat. This was a serious accident. This is belived to have been caused by delayed concussion, and he happened to be at the top of three flights of stairs when he fell.
8 days later Lewis woke up in hospital!!
After the fall Lewis was rushed to hospital and nearly died a couple of times on the journey, as he was losing a lot of blood and was unable to maintain his aiway. He was in hospital for over a week in a coma and it wasn’t looking too good, because of swelling on the brain and a chance of brain damage. But fortunately he woke up a few days after this.
He discharged himself shortly after waking.
As a result from this accident Lewis had to have a lot of time off work, in order to recover. He had no strength and was on crutches, at the time the UK was covered in snow it the worst winter the UK had seen in years.During this time he started suffering from G.A.D (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) , S.A.D (seasonal affective disorder) and P.D.S.D (post traumatic stress disorder).
He was visiting the doctors 3 times a week and was still suffering with panic attacks. Lewis created Mindz Matter in early 2011 just to see how common what he was experiencing was and Mindz Matter started life as a simple Facebook profile. As the time went on the profile became a support network for thousands of people worldwide. 8 months after starting it Lewis had helped people in 42 countries.
By this time Mindz Matter was getting too big for Facebook as the cry for more info and help happened. This is why he decided to take it further and help more people, he started this website in January 2012.
